The Kavli Digital Accelerator
Reach for Change Africa is delighted to partner with the Kavli Trust to roll out the Kavli Digital Accelerator in Ethiopia, the first of its kind in the country! Thanks to support from the Kavli Trust, the Kavli Digital Accelerator program supports social entrepreneurs with digital innovations that will improve the lives of children, youth and/or women in Ethiopia. Through the program, we help these select social entrepreneurs to turn their innovative ideas into viable, sustainable solutions to social challenges.
Over the course of 3-6 months, the Kavli Digital Accelerator is providing early stage digital social entrepreneurs with the skills and tools that they need to develop their ideas into sustainable ventures. The program provides coaching and training in problem exploration, solution design, testing and iteration, business & financial modeling, as well as pitch development and delivery. Social entrepreneurs in the program have also been awarded a start-up grant that is helping them to get their digital innovations up and running.
When digital innovation is paired with social entrepreneurship, the potential for widespread, positive impact is unlimited. Ethiopia already has great potential for digital social entrepreneurship: there is a burgeoning community of local innovators with amazing, transformative ideas - what they need is support from people who understand and believe in them and who can help them to achieve their goals. Through the Kavli Digital Accelerator, the Kavli Trust and Reach for Change Africa will enable Ethiopia's most promising social entrepreneurs to create sustainable, positive impact for years to come!
Bezawit works to transform education and bridge the gender gap in Ethiopia
Bezawit Worku is a social entrepreneur with a dream to bridge the gender gap in Ethiopia, by ensuring that girls excel in their education and women can access the best jobs in the professional world. In most organizations (both public and private), women are not assuming managerial roles. According to Bezawit, the root of this inequality is stereotypes that assume that women lack skills necessary to fit high level positions. At the same time, many Ethiopian students do not achieve the qualifications they want to when they finish school due to a lack of effective systems to help them prepare for their exams. Such failure leads to low self confidence and a sense of worthlessness.
To tackle these challenges, Bezawit developed an online education system and curriculum, which targets girls and young women, helping them to build skills, confidence and leadership potential. The system includes a range of free education and professional courses offered in both Amharic and English. They are accessed free of charge, while certificates are purchased. The courses are accessible from anywhere, at any time, and are available on any device.
Bezawit is currently being supported by the Kavli Digital Accelerator, helping her pave the way to social entrepreneurial success!
